There have been a lot of reactions which include critics, merits, and so forth on the Black Stars of Ghana squad to face Nigeria for the FIFA World Cup qualifications which are scheduled to take place on the 25th and the 29th of March 2022 respectively in Kumasi and Abuja.
The final 27-man squad was released today by coach Otto Addo and it has got many reactions by Ghanaians including Ghana’s legend Asamoah Gyan who was very disappointed in the team management due to the exclusion of RC Anderlecht sensational midfielder Majeed Ashimeru and here is my opinion on the Black Stars of Ghana squad as compared to the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Prior to this clash, both sides have a full squad of talents who are hungry and looking forward to enhancing their reputation in the football fraternity and can surprise one another but looking at both teams’ squad selection, the Super Eagles seem to have a more depth squad than the Black Stars of Ghana.
Nigeria Coach Augustine Eguavoen called up to 11-well established players in the Europe five best leagues, the likes of Victor Osimhen, Kelechi Iheanacho, Ademola Lookman who is representing his native country for the first time, Wilfred Ndidi, Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon, Ola Aina, Zaidu Sanusi, Alex Iwobi, and a quite few more. And also have a few more squads to attend to if the first team is not delivering likes of Umar Sadiq who leads the race on the golden boot in La Liga 2 with fifteen goals, Paul Onuachu who have enhanced his reputation in Belgium with KRC Genk, Union Berlin forward Taiwo Awoniyi and a quite few household names.
Black Stars of Ghana should worry more ahead of this encounter although they have a talented squad given the facts at hand, their squad selection can not be compared to that of the Super Eagles in terms of seniority, transfer value, experience, and leagues comparison. Currently, Oshimen is making headlines in Italy alongside Aina, likewise for England – Kelechi, Lookman, Ndidi, Germany – Awoniyi, Spain – Chukwueze, and a few stars.
Ghana have a decent young talented squad but with a lot of defects in the attacking role, the likes of inexperience Felix Afena Gyan who earns his first call up, Jordan Ayew with experience but hardly scores this season with Crystal Palace (1 goal in 25-outings). Per statistics, Afena Gyan happens to be Ghana’s top scorer in this competition with two goals in the striking role which is sad news going forward.
In midfield and the defensive force, both teams seem to have a solid squad but what good is a team if it doesn’t have much power force.
In real fact and squad comparison, the Black Stars of Ghana have no team as compared to the Super Eagles of Nigeria. If you think otherwise, argue in the comment section.
