After signing his first-ever professional deal with Winbase Promotions back in December 2020, then 17-year-old flyweight Mohammed ‘Golden Boy’ Aryeetey promised Ghanaians that he will deliver a world title to the shores of the country by the time he is 20.
The confident young man revealed this in an exclusive interview with The Press Box “In the next 3 years I am going to be a world champion…I promise Ghana.” Mohammed said “You have to look upon me, Mohammed the Golden Boy Aryeetey I am coming up. I am hardworking and my determination and prayers are truly motivating me and I will surely get there.”
Aryeetey’s confidence seems to be shared by his promoter Winbase Promotions CEO, Edwin Lloyd Nii Odartey Evans, who stated that we should believe in the young lad “Believe that boy…Believe what he is telling you. I mean Mohammed is dedicated, he has that commitment, he has exhibited tremendous passion in what he does and if the boy tells you he is ready to take on the world champions, know that he is ready.”
Despite the immense confidence, ‘Golden Boy’ knows he is not yet the finished article and has been pushing himself every day to reach that level “I am really getting there and I am still working hard to get there and by the grace of God I will surely get there.”
So what is the plan to get the youngster to a world champion’s level in the next 3 years? I posed that same question to promoter Edwin “We are going to do everything within our power, everything possible for us to help Mohammed realise his dreams.” The Winbase CEO said
“…he is willing to commit himself, we have no other option than to also commit ourselves; for us also to make certain sacrifices; for us also to put a lot of things on the line just so this boy can be where he wants to be.” He concluded
Renowned Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu said “a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step” and Mohammed [1-0, 1 KO] took his first steps towards his dream of world title glory; making his professional debut against fellow debutant Marvellous Dodoo [0-1, 0 KOs] at Ace Power Promotions‘ ‘Knockout COVID-19‘ show held back in December 2020 at the Trust Sports Emporium, which saw the ‘Golden Boy’ do away with his opponent in spectacular fashion, flooring Dodoo early on in the first round before knocking out a combative 18-year-old in the second round of the bout.
With two years more till his self-imposed deadline, the talented youngster has a long way to go before he can stand on the same stage as some of the best in the world, but one day in the future, I believe he could join the ranks of Azumah Nelson, Richard Commey and Isaac Dogboe as a Ghanaian world champion.
