Accra Panthers Rugby League Football Club (RLFC) got back to winning ways in the ongoing 2021 Ghana Rugby League Championships (GRLC) defeating new boys Nungua Tigers RLFC 12-0 to keep up the pace with current league leaders Ghana Skolars RLFC.
The Panthers lost their last game 6-16 against Skolars but did enough to seal the win against the Tigers, keeping their hopes alive of being a serious contender for the trophy.
It has however not been easy for the Tigers during their first stint in the Ghana Rugby League Championships, losing all their first rounds matches, but they have shown glimpses of brilliance such as in their narrow 8-6 defeat to 2019 champions Bulls RLFC.
With all the games for the first round wrapped up, the championship is currently on a break and will resume on 20th June 2021. Technical Head of the Rugby League Federation Ghana (RLFG), Marshall Nortey expressed satisfaction at the level of round one matches and said that “It can only get better in the second round in 2 weeks time.”
The second edition of the RLFG’s Rugby League Championships is set to run till 4th July 2021 at the University of Ghana (UG) Rugby Field with all matches set to be live on the federation’s official Facebook page.
