The Rugby League Federation Ghana (RLFG) has kicked off 2021 with a bang holding its much anticipated 9s series on Sunday 17th January 2021 at the University of Ghana (UG) Rugby Field.
The 9s sees a new addition to the competition as Nungua Tigers Rugby League Football Club (RLFC) joins Accra Panthers RLFC, Skolars RLFC, Bulls RLFC and Ghana Pirates RLFC as they compete to be named the champions of Ghana.
Skolars RLFC kicked as off at 13:00 GMT as they faced new boys Nungua Tigers RLFC and the 2019 runner-ups of the Ghana Rugby League Championships showed their dominance defeating the men from Nungua 19-0 at the end of the match.
The second game saw Accra Panthers edge out Ghana Pirates 6-4 in what was a nervy game for both sides as they struggled to get ahead in the match.
Skolars would then face Accra Panthers but would be unable to get past their opponent as they were defeated in a narrow 4-7 result.
Accra Panthers who had been dominant on the day would welcome the Nungua Tigers to the Ghana Rugby League by thrashing the side 17-4.
The second round of the Ghana 9s series is set for next month and will see four (4) clubs play during the last Sunday of each month (from January to December) before a champion is crowned.
