The first round of the FIFA World Cup qualification CAF first round came off successfully where we oversaw DR Congo held Morocco to a 1-1 draw, Mali nightmare at home against Tunisia as the North Africa escaped with nil win, Algeria discovered form after Abysmal AFCON campaign with a goal project against Cameroon, Ghana in a goalless draw with Nigeria and finally Egypt with the revenge on Senegal after AFCON finals fate.
And as individuals’ performances are accounted for, this is the team of the week.
Algeria shot-stopper Raïs M’Bolhi guides the goal post in this week’s team despite competition from Nigeria Francis Uzoho, Ghana Joseph Wollacott, and Egypt’s Mohamed El-Shenawy. He was very impressive in goal post saving most of Cameroon’s goal attempts and keeping a clean sheet as well. At the heart of the defense are Algeria Djamel Benlamri and Nigeria Leon Balogun. Both duos showed maturity and good cover-ups alongside a clean sheet, making them the perfect duet. Ghana’s newbie Denis Odoi comes in the right right-back and Tunisia Ali Maâloul on the left-side due to their unparalleled overlapping and recoveries abilities.
Although couldn’t get the needed result for the Africa Champions – Senegal, Idrissa Gueye dazzled in the holding role and emerged as the highest-rated player against Egypt and will be paired by Ghana’s Thomas Partey. As Gueye holds the midfield with tackles, blocks, and interceptions, Partey, on the other hand, will be in charge of distributing passes and making long shots. Algeria’s midfield genius Youssef Belaïli will connect the central and the attacking role with his passing techniques and dribbling qualities.
DR Congo’s literal winger and scorer Yoane Wissa will feature as a left-midfielder and Ghana’s Kudus Mohammed on the right side. Both showed good false nine making them the ideal players to feed our lead Algeria striker Islam Slimani.
Which player impressed you the most and think should have been here?.
