Xavi ‘tells Barcelona to offload SEVEN players in huge summer overhaul’

Barcelona manager Xavi is reportedly planning to offload seven more players during the summer transfer window.

Xavi is eager to bring in reinforcements ahead of the 2022-2023 campaign to challenge Read Madrid for the LaLiga title and compete in the Champions League again.

However, the Xavi recognises the importance of selling players before pursuing any new transfer targets due to the financial circumstances at the club.

Xavi has also dismissed a host of players this summer as he looks to overhaul the Barcelona squad ahead of the upcoming season.

Philippe Coutinho has sealed a permanent switch to Aston Villa for about £17million after successful talks between the Premier League club and Barcelona.

Clement Lenglet joined Tottenham on loan from Barcelona after making more than 100 appearances for the Catalan giants.

Barcelona also parted ways with Dani Alves for a second time after he returned to Nou Camp in December last year and played 17 games.

According to The Sun, Xavi is now looking to offload seven more players during the summer transfer window.

Among those expected to the leave the club are Neto, Samuel Umtiti, Martin Braithwaite and Memphis Depay.

Spanish news publication, Sport, has reported that the Barcelona manager is looking to ‘force’ Neto, Umtiti and Braithwaite out of the door this summer.

It is believed that the Barcelona trio have become surplus to the requirements ahead of the 2022-2023 campaign.

Oscar Mingueza and Riqui Puig – who graduated from the club’s academy – have also been touted as two potential departures this summer, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Barcelona also offloaded Rey Manaj to Watford – despite the fact the 25-year-old had a plethora of experience from Italy and Spain.

Memphis Depay is also expected to leave this summer after being told he is no longer part of Xavi’s plans for next season.

The Dutch forward fell down the pecking order in the second-half of last season due to injuries and January signings such as Ferran Torres and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Meanwhile, Frenkie de Jong is edging closer to a move to Manchester United. The two clubs have agreed a package for De Jong worth an initial £55m that could potentially rise to £72m and it is now up to the player to decide where his future lies.
