Barcelona manager Xavi has told six of his players that they are not in his plans going forward at the Nou Camp.
As the former midfielder continues to build a new era at the club after another disappointing season, Riqui Puig, Neto, Oscar Mingueza, Clement Lenglet, Samuel Umtiti and Moussa Wague have all been informed that they are going to be moved on in the transfer market.
According to sport.es, Xavi is keen to start from scratch at Barca with pre-season set to begin today, but many questions remain over several players’ futures.
The Spaniard reportedly still wants to sign a minimum of five new players in preparation for the 2022/23 season, but is also keen to move unwanted stars out of the club sooner rather than later.
The six players are said to have been given an extra week from the start of pre-season to organise their futures, and they must find new clubs if they want regular minutes this season.
Whilst Lenglet has been linked with Tottenham, other players may have difficulty finding a way out, with the likes of Neto and Umtiti having been linked with moves away from the Catalan club in several recent windows.
If Umtiti does leave it is likely to be on loan to another club in Spain – Wague, meanwhile, is just returning from a serious injury that has kept him out for a year, meaning fewer clubs are likely to be willing to take a risk on the full-back.
Umtiti signed for Barcelona in 2016 from Lyon, whilst Wague joined in 2018.
Mingueza and Puig both graduated from Barcelona’s academy but it has been made clear that Xavi does not want either player around.
It is thought that the players have known of their situation for a few weeks, with Xavi planning on shaking things up as he tries to turn around Barcelona’s fortunes once and for all.
